Cookie policy

This page lists every cookie Rascals - Bartel Samyn, Kastanjestraat 21, 8800 Roeselare, Belgium (enterprise number BE 0792.738.042) places on your device, and why. It repeats and expands the short version already in the privacy policy — this is the version with all four named.

The cookies, one by one

locale — remembers which language you were reading in, Dutch or English, so a later visit to the bare address lands you in the right one. Holds a two-letter code, nothing else, and is kept until you clear it or change language again.

rascals-session and XSRF-TOKEN — belong to the two forms on this site. Together they keep your session and protect a submission against being replayed or forged from outside. Both disappear when your browser closes, or a few hours later, whichever comes first.

remember_web_* — keeps the site's own admin dashboard signed in between visits. It is only ever set when I log into that dashboard myself; if you are reading this as a visitor, this is the one cookie on the list you will never actually receive.

Why there is no cookie banner

Belgian and EU cookie rules require asking first for anything that is not strictly necessary — an analytics script, an advertising pixel, a heatmap. All four cookies above exist only to make something you asked for work: reading the site in your language, submitting a form safely, or (for one account only) staying logged into the admin dashboard. Cookies that are strictly necessary for a service you requested are specifically exempt from that consent requirement, which is why there is no banner asking for it.

None of the four is shared with anyone, sold, or used to build a profile of you. If that ever changes — a booking widget, an embedded video, anything from a third party — this page and the banner it would then require change with it.

What is not a cookie

Your light or dark preference is stored in your browser's local storage, not a cookie. It never leaves your device and is never sent to the server. The visitor counting described in the privacy policy is not a cookie either — it happens on the server, from the request itself, with nothing stored on your device at all.

If you block or clear cookies

Clearing or blocking locale simply means the site falls back to your browser's language setting on the next bare-address visit. Clearing or blocking rascals-session or XSRF-TOKEN means a form cannot be submitted until they are allowed again — there is no way around that one, since it is what makes the submission safe in the first place.
